WELTHUNGERHILFE

|
|
Welthungerhilfe was
founded in 1962 as the National Committee of the “Freedom from
Hunger Campaign” set up by the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural
Organisation (FAO). Today it is one of Germany’s largest
non-governmental organisations working in the area of development
cooperation and humanitarian aid. Non-profit making,
non-denominational and politically independent, the organisation is
run by a board of honorary members under the patronage of the
President of the Federal Republic of Germany. Its work is funded by
private donations and public grants. |

Our Goals
-
Welthungerhilfe
campaigns worldwide for human rights, sustained development, a
guaranteed food supply and conservation of the environment. We
regard our work to be successful if people improve their living
conditions to such an extent that they can enjoy a secure
livelihood without outside aid.
-
As a non-governmental
organisation Welthungerhilfe represents the citizens of a wealthy
country, who bear a responsibility for ensuring that we don’t only
pay lip-service to the idea of solidarity with the poorest and most
vulnerable members of poor societies in rural areas. For this
reason, together with partners from schools, the media and the world
of politics, Welthungerhilfe campaigns for solidarity and fairer
cooperation with the societies of these countries.
Our Work
-
We provide help from one set
of hands by means of rapid humanitarian aid in situations of acute
crises regions. Where hunger and poverty are chronic, we cooperate
closely with local partners on long term projects.
-
As part of this process we
provide support to the landless, for small farmers, women, children and
young people; and for people who need start-up aid in order to lead
their lives in justice and dignity.
-
Our work is characterised by
commitment, experience and competence.
-
We fund our work from
private donations and public grants. We have received the “seal
of approval” from Germany’s Central Institute for Social Issues
(DZI) for the cost-effective and transparent way we use for
funds.
Our Projects
Welthungerhilfe is working
in 47 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, primarily in
rural areas. Its work is funded by private donations from the
population at large and public grants, mainly from the Federal
German government, the European Union and the World Food Programme.
Our project work concentrates on the following areas:
-
Agriculture and Natural
Resources
-
Survival and
Reconstruction Aid
-
Children and Youth
-
Adult education
-
Women promotion
-
Water, Sanitation,
Hygiene
-
Strengthening Self-help
Groups and Partner Organisations
For better clarity and a sharpened profile, the INGO
"Welthungerhilfe" (formerly also called "German Agro Action / GAA"
in the anglophone context and "Agro Action Allemande / AAA" in the
francophone context) has decided to use only its German name in all
our countries of operation.
This change is applied as of 1st January 2008.
