VISION 2025
The Vision 2025 provides Sierra Leone with a national vision for
long-term development. It gives a direction to the medium-long term
strategies, like the PRSP and UNDAF. The Vision 2025 is based on
a broad analysis of macro-economy, governance and challenges in
key sectors, and from there, projects future scenarios for political
and economic progress. It portraits a vision of Sierra Leone as
an attractive country of a united people and a progressive nation,
and then presents six strategic issues related to the implementation
of this vision. These strategic issues are:
-
How to attain a competitive private sector-led
economy with effective indigenous participation.
-
How to create a high quality of life for all
Sierra Leoneans.
-
How to build a well-educated and enlightened
society.
-
How to create a tolerant, stable, secure and
well managed society based on democratic values.
-
How to ensure sustainable and effective utilization
of natural resources while maintaining a quality environment.
-
How to develop a Science and Technology driven
nation.
The Vision 2025 points out crucial options and actions for these
issues to be addressed effectively, and how the vision can be implemented.
“Formulation of Vision 2025 is only the beginning of a long
task. Now the challenge is to make the Vision happen: to create
a prosperous society that cares about people and the environment.
Sierra Leoneans through Vision 2025 have committed themselves to
building a better future. The Vision must therefore become the guiding
framework; efforts must be made to ensure that actions by all stakeholders
are consistent with it. The nation must also be ready to create
the necessary institutions, build the capabilities and invest the
resources that will be needed to achieve the Vision. Sierra Leoneans
must be determined to avoid the mistakes of the past. All stakeholders,
whether local or foreign, will be encouraged to commit themselves
to building Vision 2025 and to ensure its realisation.” (Vision2025
