Kono District

 

Kono lies in the east of Sierra Leone. It boarders Guinea in the east and Koinadugu district to the north, Tonkolili to the west and Kenema to the southwest. It occupies a total space of 5,397.5 Km2 and comprises of fourteen chiefdoms. The district headquarter is Koidu town. The main ethnic groups are Kono, Mende, Kissi and Temne.

 

Main economic activities include diamond and gold mining, rice growing, coffee and cacao plantations. The district is predominantly Muslim.
