Bonthe District

Bonthe lies in the south of Sierra Leone. It boarders the Atlantic Ocean in the west, Moyamba to the northwest, Bo to the southeast and Pujehun to the south. It occupies a total space of 3,611.8 Km2 and comprises of twelve chiefdoms. The main ethnic groups are Mende, Sherbro, Temne and Loko.

 

The main economic activities include fishing , rice growing, oil palm plantations and mining (rutile and bauxite). The district is predominantly Muslim.
