Vision

The Ministry’s vision is the creation and promotion of decent and productive employment opportunities for all, especially among the disadvantaged groups, including the youths, women and disabled.  

Structure of the Ministry

Structurally, the Ministry is divided mainly into the Administrative and Professional wings/Divisions.

The Administrative arm of the Ministry, in conjunction with the Professionals, ensures that policies emanating from Government, through the political head, the Minister, are effectively and judiciously implemented.

The Permanent Secretary as Head of this Division is further charged with the responsibility of coordinating all the activities of the Ministry. He is ably assisted in this Division by a core of personnel, including the Deputy Secretary, Senior Assistant Secretary, Assistant Secretaries, an Executive Officer and the Accounting and a coterie of Clerical Staff.

The Professional Wing, headed by the Commissioner of Labour is further sub-divided into:

  • Industrial Relations

  • Employment Services

  • Wages and Labour Inspections

  • International Labour Standards and Statistics

  • Factory Inspectorate

  • Work Permit Bureau

  • Workmen’s Compensation and Social Security Administration

  • Objectives of the Ministry

  • Promote Labour, Manpower Planning and Human Resource Development

  • Sectoral emphasis on needs of disadvantaged groups.

  • Design employment and labour market policies.

  • Promote self-employment and income generating activities for youths in Sierra Leone.

  • Provide Work Permits.

  • Facilitate wages and labour Inspection

  • Establish relations with Industrial and Trade Organisations.

  • Promote competitive and effective Labour Market.

  • Ensure occupational safety and health.

  • Promote Social Security and Safety Net Schemes -Social Security Division.

  • Oversee the general administration of the Scheme in accordance with the Law, including the core ILO Conventions, consistent with National Objectives.

  • Collaborate with relevant Government Ministries and National and International Organisations/ Institutions.
